Sports Person of the Week - Arlond Brooks Jr.

Arlond Brooks Jr.
Friday, November 28, 2003

Young Caymanian, Arlond Brooks, has the potential to make a great contribution towards the future of the Cayman Islands rugby. Having only played rugby for two years Arlond shows a lot of talent and dedication to the sport.

He graduated from John Gray High School in 2001 and went to Prep School for one year of A levels, during that period he was influenced by several classmates to join rugby and see how he liked it. Playing as the loose end prop, Arlond said: “I enjoy this position, I’m well suited for it and I wouldn’t have me playing anywhere else.”

One of his major influencing factors and role-models for the sport has been Richard “Grizz” Adams, his coach. Grizz introduced Arlond to rugby and has coached him to the level he has reached.

“It’s because of Grizz I’ve come to the sport and become so interested,” Arlond said. “He has taken me to the next level, which has motivated me to excel to my utmost.”
