National Vocational Technical Honour Society
at Remington College

Tuesday, December 2, 2003

A young Caymanian received an honourary award from the National Vocational Technical Honour Society for outstanding character and academic achievement at Remington College in Tampa, Florida, recently.

Since the beginning of this year, Rudolph Davis III has successfully maintained a 4.0 grade point average and has been nominated for high standing at the college for his academic excellence in the Information Technology discipline.

With eight years experience in computer maintenance, Mr Davis, who is currently pursuing an Associate of Science degree in Computer Networking, plans to continue his education at ITT Technical Institute, following graduation from Remington College.

While at ITT Technical Institute, he plans to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Database Management & Networking Securities, and gain experience pertinent to the Cayman Islands via the college's internship programme.

In addition to his remarkable academic performance and work experience, Mr Davis is also known locally and internationally as DJ TNT, a member of the Tampa-based group, Poison Dart.

His musical capabilities gained worldwide recognition when the Poison Dart crew placed first in the recent United States Rumble finals in Queens, New York. The Rumble featured several highly recognised participants from around the US who had travelled to the Big Apple to compete for the coveted title.

Following a successful win at the Rumble, Mr Davis went on with Poison Dart to compete in the World Clash, which is recognised as the largest DJ contest in the United States. Some of the world's best musical minds travelled from as far as Japan to compete in the Clash. Among the top competitors were the Mighty Crown of Japan, One Level of Italy, Jamaica's Black Cat, Matsemilia of Trinidad, and last year's winner, Rebel Tone of Canada.

Although the group fell short of victory by only a few points, their fan base has grown since then, which has left a memorable impression on Mr Davis, who felt honoured to be representing the Cayman Islands at a world class level.

Enthused with his current success, Mr Davis reflects on his experience overseas: "As a student, I wish to express my sincerest appreciation to the Cayman Islands Education Council and NCVO for their continuous support while I pursue my studies overseas.

"I am especially grateful to my family, friends and mentors, who have been encouraging me ever since I started college. I encourage young Caymanians to reach their highest potential, and also, strive to meet their goals in order to enhance personal development and growth. You can do it!"

Among his most recent achievements, Mr Davis currently holds a technical certification in A+ software programming. He is also a Microsoft Certified Professional and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.

He received a John Gray Memorial Scholarship Award this year, and he is a scholarship recipient of the Cayman Islands Government. He is the son of Rudolph Davis II and Sonia Davis.
