SEGOES gives to the less fortunate
Friday, December 19, 2003
In an effort to extend holiday cheer to those less fortunate, SEGOES Securities Limited has announced that for each trade executed during the month of December through to 1 January, 2004, the firm will donate CI$1 to the Funds for the Needy programme organised by the service clubs in Grand Cayman.
As an ongoing annual event, the Funds for the Needy programme seeks to raise as much as possible to provide holiday gifts for the less fortunate, and elderly, of the Caymanian community.
"Letters are usually sent out to major corporations and organisations requesting donations for the programme and many of the Lions Club members actually take to the streets to collect further donations from the public," explained Lions Club Fundraising Committee Chairman Osbourne Bodden. Canned goods and other food items are also donated by local supermarkets.
Mr Bodden reported that each year the programme generates approximately CI$20,000 in donations. He said that the funds are shared between many different activities, which are geared towards making the season special for the island's less fortunate residents.
Events this year have included the annual Christmas party at the Sunrise Adult Training Center on 17 December, and the annual Christmas party at the Lighthouse School on 18 December.
The funds will also go to the All Island Children's Christmas party at the Lions Centre which will be held on Sunday, 21 December, at 1:00 pm, and the delivery of gifts to the Pines Retirement Home.
Roberta Gordon, Director of the Sunrise Adult Training Center, commented, "The residents and members here look forward to this fulfilling event each year, as for many of them it is the pinnacle of the Christmas Season."
"The Christmas party is a wonderful opportunity for the students to interact with the community, as they don't just have an enjoyable time but also get the opportunity to perform their annual Christmas concert for those in attendance," explained Shari Bovell, Principal of the Lighthouse School.
