Gay Frye was the lucky winner of the early registrant prize drawn as part of the lead-up to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society's Half-Marathon scheduled for this Sunday, 18 January.
Ms Frye, who is a cancer survivor, won two return tickets to any Air Jamaica Express destination. Christine Sanders, Office Manager, of the Cancer Society expressed her thanks to Patricia Strudwick-Thompson of Air Jamaica Express for donating the prize.
Last year Ann Macfarlane organised 30 walkers in North Side to walk in aid of the Cancer Society and this year she is aiming to attract at least 40 participants. Ms Macfarlane recognised that people living in North Side and East End might want to walk to support the Society, but might not want to drive into town early on a Sunday morning. So Ms Macfarlane took the initiative and organised a walk from Old Man Bay to Rum Point.
People wishing to join the group may contact Ms Macfarlane at Sea Fever in Old Man Bay or call 947-0990. Alternatively, Ruth Harris can be contacted at Driftwood Village at 947-9015.
All entries received will be entered into the main draw for spot prizes being done by the Cancer Society at the Public Beach at the end of the Half-Marathon.
The Cancer Society walk on Sunday, 18 January is one of the Society's major fundraisers for the year and is sponsored in part by Progressive Distributors and Fosters Food Fair IGA.
"Participants have a choice of walking or running 13.1 miles, six miles or any part thereof," according to Christine Sanders, of the Society. The Society recommends that participants doing the 13.1 mile distance start at 6 am and those doing the shorter distance begin at 7 am. The event costs $20 and the registration fee includes a T-shirt for the first 1,000 registrants. For more information on how you can register for this event call 949-7618.
