In a concerted effort to rejuvenate Grand Cayman's most valuable resource, SEGOES Securities, Z99 and Rooster 101, are organising a second massive beach cleanup, dubbed Operation Beach Cleanup, on Saturday, 7 February, from 8-11 am along Seven Mile Beach from Public Beach to the West Bay Boat Launch.
"I find it disheartening the way that some people mistreat our natural resources, such as Seven Mile Beach," said John Kaweske, Chairman of SEGOES Securities.
"I am hoping that we can make an impact towards the restoration of our beaches and leave them in better conditions for the generations to come. This ideal is what we would like to convey to the community."
One visitor from the United States, who wished to remain anonymous, commented that, "It's such a shame to see the amount of garbage dotted along the beach. We come to the island to enjoy the beaches, which are beautiful, but the litter certainly concerns us."
For all those who participate in the cleanup there will be a barbecue, courtesy of the Lonestar Bar and Grill, as well as refreshments from Cayman Distributors.
The first Operation Beach Cleanup campaign took place on Saturday, 20 September last year, at Barker's Beach in West Bay. More than 70 people cleaned just over a mile of Barker's Beach.
Tim Adam, Chief Executive Officer of Cable & Wireless (Cayman Islands) Ltd was a participant. "The SEGOES beach cleanup last year was an excellent opportunity for individuals, families, and organisations to get together and each do their part in a tangible way to help make our island a nicer place to live and to visit. It felt good to know that my family and I were out there helping in that effort, and we enjoyed the morning working together on a community-minded project," he said.
"For everyone involved, and for our young people in particular, it helped to emphasize responsibility in how we use the environment, and that it's up to us to take care of it. I congratulate SEGOES for continuing their sponsorship of this important project again this year," he concluded.
Support for the Cleanup also comes from John Gray Recyclers, and Mac Plumbing.
All interested people can call Nicole at 945-1166 for more information. Volunteers should arrive at public beach on Saturday at 8 am in order to pick up bags and gloves, and register to win a $1,000 savings bond from Segoes Securities.
