
Attorney General at conference

Cayman Islands' Attorney General, the Hon Sam Bulgin, is in the British Virgin Islands this week to attend the annual Overseas Territories Attorneys General Conference.
The conference, which concludes on Thursday, will include such topics as alternatives to custodial sentencing, difficulties with major crime investigations, the role of Justices of the Peace in Overseas Territories, police and criminal evidence legislation in the Overseas Territories, the role of the
attorney general, law revision, human rights projects, ILO Conventions, and maritime interdiction.
Mr Bulgin will be joining attorneys general from England and Wales, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
British Foreign and Commonwealth representatives will include Roy Osborne, Deputy Head, Overseas Territories Department, Ian Hendry, CMG, Deputy Legal Advisor, Susan Dickson Legal Counsel, Michael Bradley, QC, Constitutional Advisor, OTD, among other UK participants. The US Department of Justice will also be represented.
Accompanying Mr Bulgin to the conference will be John Epp, Senior Lecturer at the Cayman Islands Law School. Mr Epp will present research findings in a paper entitled Options for the cost-effective provision of Legal Aid in the Overseas Territories.
Mr Bulgin returns to his office on Monday, 23 February.
