St Ignatius Prep School gets post- inspection
Monday, February 23, 2004
The summary report on St Ignatius Prep School's post-inspection visit that took place between 30 September and 2 October has been released by the Ministry of Education.
Among the areas the school had been asked to tackle as a result of the initial inspection were: Review the current curriculum and schemes of work and up-date the work in some subjects, improve the range and quality of materials, books and equipment, ensure the pace and level of work matches the needs of the full ability range and further develop procedures for identifying and monitoring the progress of pupils with special educational needs.
The summary report indicated that the school had made progress in relation to almost all of the key issues identified in the 1998 inspection report and that most of the progress had been achieved in the past three and a half years.
Inspectors say the quality of the curriculum has improved significantly in language arts and mathematics, although the school has not yet taken steps to improve the science curriculum.
The manner in which major initiatives have been introduced, and the approach to professional development of staff, have enabled all to work together more effectively. This places the school in a promising position to continue building on what has already been achieved and to tackle other areas such as provisions for pupils with special educational needs, and curriculum development in science, with increasing confidence.
Post-inspection visits are short, follow-up inspections for schools previously inspected. St Ignatius Prep School was first inspected from 3-7 November 1997.
The school has made copies of the report available to parents. Copies of all summary reports produced by the inspectorate are also available to the general public, for reference, at: George Town Public Library; the National Archive; the Education Department's Resource Centre and the Teachers' Centre in Cayman Brac.
