
RCIP service welcomes new Sergeants

The Royal Cayman Islands Police (RCIP) recently promoted Constables Richard Harvey and Mark Schofield to the rank of Sergeant.
Sergeant Harvey is a 15-year police veteran who joined the service in 1989. He worked in several departments including the George Town Police Station, the Drugs Task Force (DTF) and the Community Policing Department, where he was trained to become a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) instructor.
He received an LLB degree from the Cayman Islands Law School in 2003 and he is presently attached to the Prosecution Department where he is the first Sergeant to be appointed to the role of Court Prosecutor.
Commenting on why he joined the service Sergeant Harvey said: "I decided that I wanted to become a police officer so that I would be able to contribute to the community in a positive way. I hope to continue to serve the community in my new position and I look forward to the challenges that it will bring."
Sergeant Schofield began his carrier in law enforcement at the Greater Manchester Police Force in 1989. He arrived in the Cayman Islands on secondment in 1998 and subsequently decided to permanently move to the Islands.
He explained: "I think the Cayman Islands is a great place to live and work and I enjoy being part of a multicultural community."
During his years of service he has worked at the Cayman Brac Police Station, the Uniform Support Group (USG) and the George Town Police Station. He is currently working at the Community Policing Department in North Side, where he recently started a monthly newsletter, which features road safety tips, crime statistics and interviews with North Side residents.
Commenting on his new position he said: "I hope that I can be a good role model for junior officers in the service in order to help them realize their potential, which will benefit both the RCIP and the community."
