The Cayman Islands Scout Association Annual founder's day service took place at the Church of God of Prophesy (Victory Tabernacle) in Eastern Avenue, George Town, on Sunday, 22 February.

The service began with some rousing choruses, after which Dr the Hon Frank McField, JP, Minister for Community Services, Youth, Sports and Gender Affairs, greeted those present.

In Attendance was HE the Governor Bruce, Dinwiddy, who is also Chief Scout, and his wife, Emma. During his speech, Mr Dinwiddy said: "Look beyond the current bounds of the scouting movement in these islands. I'd advise you all to share in a national spirit of togetherness and co-operation."

Mr Dinwiddy continued: "In my message a year ago I appealed to our young people to keep to the straight way, and to develop their full potential. Many of you, I'm sure, already know our Lord's parable of the talents in St Mathew's gospel. That has never been more true than in this day."

The scripture reading was 1 Timothy 4, 12-16, read by Dushun Wilson. During the sermon, Pastor Cassius Feare referred to the scripture, saying, "Stir up the gift that is in you… you have to recognise that there is something special in you."

A series of presentations of fire safety badges to young people then took place, from Roy Grant, Deputy Chief Fire Safety Officer.

There was also music from a brass quartet, part of the Wesleyan Christian Academy Band.

The scout movement was founded in Brownsea Island, in England, in 1907, and scouting was introduced to the Cayman Islands in the late 1920s by the Rev Ed Beale.
