With the recent acquisition of the preparatory 'bid book', the Cayman Islands recently came one step closer to becoming one of the host countries for the International Cricket Council's World Cup West Indies games in 2007.

Deborah Ebanks, Chairman of the Cayman Islands Cricket Association's Bid Committee, presented the detailed document to Leader of Government Business the Hon McKeeva Bush, OBE JP, and
Minister for Sports, Dr the Hon Frank McField, JP.

Mr Bush commented: "Our involvement at this level is long overdue and much-anticipated. I commend association members for their hard work, especially with the youth programme and the development of facilities, and I offer my full support."

He also thanked volunteers and the private sector for their many contributions to the sport.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Dr McField, who said: "We are proud as a Government and country to have achieved so much in the game of cricket. We accept and are grateful that these gains are the result of a productive partnership between Government and the private sector."

Also attending the presentation were National Cricket Coach and Technical Director of the Cricket Association, Theo Cuffy; Association Secretary Merta Day and committee member Charles Quin.

Ms Ebanks expressed the enthusiasm that already exists for the cricket championship, which will be held in this region in three years' time. Various Caribbean countries will host the games.

She said: "This is a really exciting and historic time for our region, and for the Cayman Islands to be a part of it would bring tremendous opportunities. While we have big dreams we also have to be realistic, but we are depending on the support of government and the entire community in this venture."

Cayman's senior cricket team will start its quest for the world-class qualifiers in July, when it will play on tour in Bermuda.
