Thursday, March 18, 2004
A high-level delegation from the Cayman Islands, led by the Leader of Government Business Hon McKeeva Bush, will head off for a two-week relationship-building trip in Hong Kong this Thursday.
The aim of the mission is to strengthen and further develop the ties between two of the world's leading financial centres.
Among those accompanying Mr Bush will be the Financial Secretary, Hon George McCarthy, the Attorney General Sam Bulgin, and Mr Bush's Permanent Secretary Charles Clifford. Representing the private sector in the delegation will be Paul Byles of Deloitte and Touche and Dan Scott of Ernst and Young.
On Mr Bush's agenda for the trip are a number of meetings with senior Government and business leaders, including sessions with the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourist Board and the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
While there, Mr Bush will also meet with officials about opening the Hong Kong branch of the recently-established Cayman Islands Investment Bureau.
Mr Bush said he sees this trip as an opportunity to strengthen the already strong ties that already exist between Cayman and Hong Kong. "Closer relationships will lead to new and exciting business opportunities for both of us," he said in a recent press release. He added, "I have long had the vision of the Cayman Islands as the 'Hong Kong of the Caribbean', not in terms of population, but in terms of a dynamic place to do business."
