Tourist Robbed At Gunpoint

Friday, March 19, 2004

A man with a gun robbed a male tourist visiting on a cruise ship last Tuesday, according to a Royal Cayman Islands Police (RCIP) press release.

The incident happened shortly after 11:00 am on Hospital Road, George Town, which is less than 300 yards away from the George Town Police Station.

The victim was walking along the road when a dark-skinned man, who held what is believed to be a firearm, approached him and demanded money.

The tourist handed over his wallet containing a quantity of US dollars and then the suspect then fled from the location.

The matter was reported to police and although a search of the surrounding areas was made no suspect was caught.

The victim of this crime, although shocked, suffered no physical injuries. The matter is now under investigation by RCIP detectives from the George Town.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information relating to this incident and anyone who can help is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Joseph on 949-4222 or call Crime Stoppers on 800-TIPS (8477).
