The Achievement Centre Pre School and Kindergarten in Red Bay Road staged a Mini Concert,
on Friday, 19 March.
The object of the evening was to give the children at the centre a chance to express themselves through song, dance and drama.
Amid hearty applause from proud mothers and fathers, the red curtain across the stage opened and closed upon a succession of exuberant performances.
A colourful parade of children wearing different national costumes gave an international flavour to the evening. Children were dressed in costumes representing the USA, Grand Cayman, Colombia, Nicaragua, Jamaica and India.
A special drama sketch, called Amazing Joy, written by three helpers at the centre, told the story of a young girl who succeeded in her ambition to be a ballerina, after her mother told her that she could be 'anything she wanted to be.'
Susan Whitaker, a helper, spoke about the centre's after-school programme: "We have a variety of clubs such as Spanish, drama, computers, art and craft, dancing and music," she said, "but homework has to be done first before the child is allowed to go to any club."
During one of the performances, Cheril Calder, director of the centre, stood backstage holding a young child.
"I am so proud of the children of the Achievement Centre, they have displayed all that they have been taught, and the parents can see for themselves," she said.
"They learn through fun, and I think that, even in a pre-school setting, this is the way to go,"
she added.
