Thursday, April 8, 2004
Three Royal Cayman Islands Police (RCIP) Constables are now able to teach the
principles of DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, following a two-week
training course in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kafara Augustine, Fran General and Maria Lavin will begin teaching classes to
Year Six students in government and private school in the new school term after
being taught the new 10-week course curriculum, as well as the new Elementary
and Middle School curriculum.
DARE is an international training programme that provides police officers
with the materials they need to teach students the dangers of drug abuse and how
to lead a violence free life.
Of the programme, Constable Lavin said: Its an excellent way to build a
good relationship with the children in our community. It is also very important
to give students all of the information they need to make the right decisions
about drug abuse and life in general.
Constable General added: I enjoyed the course, it was challenging at times,
however it was definitely worth it and I look forward to teaching the
programme.
