Registration for the 2004 Cayman Carnival Batabano band, Saschay Bon Mas Band, launched at the Office Lounge in George Town on Wednesday, 7 April.

Saschay Bon’s theme this year is Cayman 501, our Cultural Mixx. There will be nine sections of the band, of which four have already sold out. Particular sections of the band will feature themes portraying a multi-cultural mix, including Europa, Latina, Africans and Caymans.

Entering its 20th year, the Batabano Carnival is one of the main highlights of Cayman's entertainment calendar and will take place from 6-9 May.

The Department of Tourism (DoT) has announced that it is on board again this year to support the carnival festivities. Its contribution to the continued development of the Cayman Carnival comes through a comprehensive sponsorship package that includes designing and producing the annual Batabano poster, developing the Carnival’s website and producing television commercials.

A Cayman Carnival Escape Package is available, created by the Batabano committee, alongside the DoT, Cayman Airways and Cayman Connections. The package allows visitors to spend the entire weekend on Grand Cayman, and includes airfare and reduced prices for a variety of on-island properties.

This year’s events will be followed closely by BET film crews, who will be in the Cayman Islands to record the carnival for special international broadcasts.
