Kirk Freeport and Herend support marine conservation education
Thursday, April 15, 2004
Kirk Freeport and Herend have donated $3,000 to the National Trust that will
help educate young people on marine conservation.
Speaking on behalf of Kirk Freeport and Herend, Operations and Merchandise
Manager of Kirk Freeport, Michael Bowman said: “We are very happy to have the
opportunity to benefit the community, through contributing to the education of
today’s youth on the marine environment and how we can best preserve it.
“The decision to apply this donation to the underwater environment was a
natural one for Herend as it represents the proceeds of Herend’s Caribbean
Collection, a range of hand-painted porcelain marine life figurines, developed
in collaboration with Kirk Freeport.
“One of the highlights of this collection is the hand-painted Stingray
figurine, designed and created by Herend exclusively for the Cayman Islands.”
Executive Director of the National Trust, Theresa Broderick, said: “We
propose using the donation to develop a youth-oriented, multi-media educational
packet that will include material contributions from several talented educators,
the Department of Environment and other educational sources on the Marine
Conservation.
“Working with a multi-media specialist, our aim is to have the packet
available on the National Trust website for independent use and also, as a
reproducible CD that can be used by teachers to compliment curriculum studies.”
