Caymanian author, Dr Curtis Barnett, and his wife, Christine, recently
visited their son, Christoph and daughter Nicole, who gave junior and senior
recitals at their respective colleges, Florida Southern College, Lakeland,
Florida, and Houghton College, New York.
Christoph, who is majoring in Guitar Performance and Accountancy, played
pieces by J S Bach Albeniz, N Koshkin, R Dyens and he gave the first public
performance of Homenaje a Mompou, a piece by his cousin, Nathan Barnett-Herrera,
a classical/flamenco guitarist who performs mostly in the Tampa area.
In her recital, Nicole performed music by Rameau, Beethoven, Brahms, Granados,
and Dello Joio. In addition to working on her courses and preparing for her own
performance, Nicole has often accompanied other music students in their recitals
at Houghton, the highly respected liberal arts college.
After Nicole’s performance, Dr and Mrs Barnett gave a reception at which they
treated the guests to cakes from the Cayman Islands.
Dr and Mrs Barnett also donated a copy of Founded Upon The Seas, the new
history of the Cayman Islands to each of the colleges.
