Children and Family Services Moves

Monday, April 19, 2004

West Bay residents will benefit from the new district office of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) district office, which will open on Monday.

The new office is adjacent to the John A. Cumber Primary School in the former Sunrise Adult Training Centre and will be managed by five trained staff headed by Paulinda Mendoza Young.

A full range of programmes continue to be offered, including services to the elderly, family intervention and financial assistance, as well as mediation of family issues.

All West Bay residents who have made appointments at the main DCFS department in George Town are to keep them at the new office, which will be open weekdays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. New appointments may also be made at the new office by calling 946-1950.

The Department of Children and Family Services’ headquarters will remain at the Tower Building in George Town. Another office is being established in Bodden Town to serve the eastern districts.

The Ministry of Community Services, Youth, Sports and Gender Affairs noted that an important aspect of this new decentralization of services would be community-based initiatives and support. District groups are therefore encouraged to support the various DCFS efforts.

Other programmes under the Community Services Ministry are similarly being reviewed with the theme ‘Integration, Collaboration and Cooperation’ and with the objective of providing an interlinked continuum of service for all residents.
