Economics and Statistics Office begins semi-annual Labour Force Survey of the Cayman Islands
Monday, April 19, 2004
The Economics and Statistics Office (ESO), began its three-week, semi-annual
Labour Force Survey of the Cayman Islands, on Sunday, 18 April.
The survey aims to net results used by the ESO to measure the labour
characteristics of the Islands and to view trends in Cayman’s labour force.
Survey participants are chosen at random by computer, and ESO Director,
Catharine Read, said all households had an equal chance of being chosen as part
of the sample population.
“Not every household will be surveyed and those selected are done so purely
by chance,” she said.
The confidential, 15-minute survey, will be conducted by 24 interviewers on
Grand Cayman and four interviewers on Cayman Brac.
The interviewers, who are mostly employed during the day, will call on
participants in the evenings and weekends, said Ms Read.
She continued: “The ESO is committed to continuing the tradition of strict
confidentiality of survey results. Questionnaires are destroyed after the data
is entered and no information is ever entered which would allow someone to be
able to link the data with the individual respondent.”
