The country crowned a new beauty queen last Saturday night when Stacey Ann
Kelly won the 2004 Miss Cayman Islands Pageant at the Lions Centre, delighting
the large crowd.
Ms Kelly was also voted Miss Photogenic and Best in Gown. Additional pageant
winners included first runner-up, Jovani Hessing, who also received the Best
Legs title and second runner-up, Derecha McLaughlin, who was also awarded the
Best Smile title.
The evening events began with the National Song, and included other songs, a
dance routine, and a very well received monologue by Quincy Brown.
Committee Chairperson, Lynne Whittaker said, “So many people have made this
journey possible, thanks to all the sponsors and the community as a whole for
your contributions whether by way of sponsorship of the girls, donations of
prizes, training time, services or financial contributions. No matter the size
of the support, together it enables us to be here tonight, giving these
contestants this wonderful evening of a lifetime.”
Minister of Tourism, the Hon McKeeva Bush, commended last year’s winner,
Nichelle Welcome and commented, “She now joins a growing list of former
international representatives for these Islands who have performed commendably,
abroad and here at home.”
Ms Welcome noted, “It has been an honour representing my country and I have
done so with pride and true joy.”
Miss Cayman Islands 2004 will go on to participate in the Miss Universe
Pageant in Ecuador and the Miss World Pageant in Hong Kong later this year.
The prizes on offer to the winner, Stacey Ann Kelly, included a 2004 SUV
Hyundai Santa Fe, a $70,000 Educational Scholarship, a six-month gym membership
from Gold’s Gym, a GSM Cellular phone from Cable & Wireless and a helicopter
ride.
First runner-up prizes included a two-year Community College Scholarship, a
trip to London and 14Kt Black Coral Jewelry from Brittianys. Second runner-up
prizes also included, a two-year Community College Scholarship and a trip to
Chicago.
