Teens will have another chance this Saturday to show off their driving skills in another motor competition at the MattSafe Safe Driving Workshop.

The workshop, which will take place at 9 am on Saturday, 24 April at the Stephen Jared Ebanks Youth Centre, will test teens’ knowledge of their cars as they race against time to do assigned tasks in and around their cars.

Prizes up for grabs will be tool kits from Parker’s, car wash kits from Napa and car services, and check-ups from Cars Ltd.

At the recent MattSafe Easter Egg Run Motor Competition a number of teens claimed the top prizes in the over-21 and all-age categories.

The Easter Egg Run competition, hosted by MattSafe and Cars Ltd, focused on knowing a car’s capabilities in events that required the teens to drive under 25 mph. Competitors used their own cars or the car they used while learning to drive. Entrants had to do parallel parking, slalom driving around road cones and reversing around the same cones.

The competition featured five categories: With learner licence only; Within first year of holding licence; Within second year of holding licence; Under-21 with licence, and an open category.

The overall winners all came from the Under-21 category with Bobby Campbell in first place, Simeon Campbell in second and Shane Solomon in third place.

Robert Campbell from Cars Ltd./Campbell’s Auto said although he was proud of the teens’ performance he would have liked to see more young drivers entering the competition. He presented the winners with trophies and said that the competition was set to become an annual event, and he was hoping to see more challengers for the top spot next year.

Teens and parents interested in attending the Mattsafe Safe Driving Workshop this Saturday, which runs from 9 am to 3:30 pm are asked to pre-register at GIS. Registration fee is CI$25.
