Bodden Town police help make it a safe, safe holiday
Monday, April 26, 2004
Over the Easter Holiday Weekend Bodden Town Police Officers with help from
the Traffic Department, Uniform Support Group (USG), K-9 Unit, Marine Department
and Special Constabulary conducted several operations to ensure that the
holidays would be safe for residents.
Officer in Charge of District Operations, Chief Inspector Donald Watler
explained: “The Easter Holiday Weekend has traditionally been a quiet family day
for picnics throughout the Islands, however in the past years there has been an
increase in drunk driving and speeding on the roads that have resulted in
injuries or fatalities.
“In addition, high-powered speedboats and personal watercraft are also being
driven recklessly and dangerously on the water by people who are intoxicated.
“Therefore we saw the necessity to increase patrols and set up various
operations over the weekend to deal with the incidents that may occur.”
As a result of the operations, on Good Friday, 9 April, a 20-year-old
motorist was warned for intended prosecution for the offences of speeding,
dangerous driving and failing to comply with a police signal after he was caught
by officers driving more than 90 mph in the East End area.
On Easter Monday, 12 April, police recovered half a pound of ganja and
arrested three men on suspicion of possession of ganja and consumption of ganja
at a residence in Northward.
Bodden Town Officers and K-9 Officers also recovered a large portion of ganja
from a campsite in Kaibo, North Side and a man was subsequently arrested for
possession of ganja.
Commenting on the weekend, Chief Inspector Watler said: “Although some
offences were committed and arrests were made, I am pleased that there were no
serious accidents or fatalities reported.”
