Hon McKeeva Bush
Friday, April 30, 2004
A major consultation initiative to protect and advance the Cayman Islands
economy was announced by the Leader of Government Business, Hon McKeeva Bush, on
Wednesday.
The consultation paper entitled ‘Protecting, Enhancing and Promoting the
Cayman Islands’, seeks the views of interested parties about a number of
measures proposed by Government to secure benefits for the Islands.
“My priority is to deliver security for our families and opportunities for our
children,” said Mr Bush.
“The consultation I have announced today is central to our plans to deliver
more jobs in the Cayman Islands, to encourage more business to come here, and to
help our financial services community to continue to prosper.”
Issues covered in the initiative include, among other things, enhancing and
developing the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange, improving the international
standing of the Cayman Islands and securing membership to the International
Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) for the Cayman Islands Monetary
Authority.
“We enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the Caribbean, and our
efforts must first be focused on protecting what we have,” said Mr Bush, “but we
must also look ahead and anticipate new trends and always be one step ahead of
our competitors.”
