New School Resource Officer for JGHS

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIP) recently appointed Constable Murray Spelay to the position of School Resource Officer at John Gray High School.

Commenting on his new position, Constable Spelay stated, “I am eager to begin working with the students and staff at the high school and I look forward to sharing my experiences with them.”

Constable Spelay is a nine-year police veteran from the Edmonton Alberta Police Service in Canada, where he spent the past two years as School Resource Officer at the Queen Elizabeth High School. During his years of service in Canada, he has also worked in Community Bike Patrol, Narcotics, and the Gang Unit.

Prior to joining the police service in Canada, he received a Bachelor’s Degree in social work from the University of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and has worked as a youth addiction counsellor, mental health consultant and youth and family counsellor.

Chief Education Officer Nyda Flatley remarked, “We are very pleased to be afforded the opportunity of having a Community Police Officer at our school.”
