
Cancer Society will host charity Red Dress Affair

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society has announced it will be holding its Red
Dress Affair on Thursday, 20 May, beginning at 5:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel.
The evening is billed as one of “health, education and fashion” and includes
health screenings, exhibitions of different types of fitness programmes offered
in Cayman, seminars by doctors affiliated with Baptist Hospital and a fashion
show.
In addition there will be a silent auction with many items to be purchased
and a cocktail reception hosted by Baptist Hospital.
There is no charge to attend, but the Society is asking that people make a
donation to support the work of the organisation in the community.
The suggested donation is $25, but all donations will be accepted. All the
funds received at this event will be used to support programmes including the
quit smoking programme, the voucher programme and financial aid to cancer
patients.
The first part of the evening includes the cocktail reception, silent
auction, exercise exhibitions by Cayman Physiotherapy and health screening by
the Health Services Authority.
It will be offering blood pressure and glucose screenings and Progressive
Distributors will offer body fat checks while Dr Stephen Pickering will perform
lung function checks.
The silent auction features items including fitness and wellness activities
from Fitness Connection and Cayman physiotherapy, jewellery from Island
Companies, 24 K-Mon Jewellers and Sajen Jewellers, dinners from The Brasserie
and Lighthouse restaurants and a special at-home dinner with wine from Mise En
Place.
Other items include modeling classes from Elite Modeling Agency, crystal from
Kirk Freeport, paintings from local artists David Bridgeman and Jan Hauteur and
a CayWoman makeover. There will also be a door prize courtesy of American
Airlines.
The second part of the evening features two seminars. The first will be by Dr
Perez-Fernandez, who specialises in lung cancer and helping people quit smoking.
He will address the topic The Effects of Smoking – Can I Quit? The second
presentation will focus on heart disease and is entitled The Heart Truth and
will be given by Dr Peron, a cardiologist.
Before the start of the seminars, Mrs Emma Dinwiddy, patron of the Society,
will officially open “the Affair” and a plaque will be presented to Dr Joe
Ostroski for his for his many years of support and service to the Society.
The evening will conclude with a fashion show featuring models from Elite
Modeling Service and a line of clothing by designer Betty Pol and the Fifty Rio
Boutique of Key Biscayne, Florida.
As this is A Red Dress Affair the Cancer Society is inviting all attendees,
both male and female, to show their support by wearing red to the event.
