Kirk Freeport get revenge for defeat

Friday, May 21, 2004

During a game on Saturday, Kirk Freeport made Gatorade/LeBleu experience how they felt on Wednesday evening, as they came from a run down in the bottom of the final inning to post an 8:7 win in the CILL/CISF 16+ baseball division.

Jonathon Owens took the mound for Kirk Freeport and held Gatorade in check for the first three innings as Kirk Freeport built a lead of 4:1, thanks in part to Nick Wight’s two-run home run.

However, in the top of the 4th inning, Gatorade/LeBleu struck for six runs and took the lead 7:4; Josh Ebanks contributed a two-run home run.

Kirk Freeport promptly responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.

In the top of the 5th inning, Gatorade /LeBleu scored a run to take the lead 8:7 but could not hold on in the bottom of the inning.

Luis Clarke scored the tying run on a double by Jonathon Owens and Nick Wight came through with the game winning RBI as he knocked in Jonathon Owens.

Meanwhile on Wednesday evening, player-coach Marlon Thomas staked Gatorade/LeBleu to a 3:1 lead after six innings, with Eudilices Matos and Eddie Torres stroking rbi singles.

In the top of the 7th inning, Gatorade /LeBleu fielded the ball poorly and gave up three runs. Joseph Kirkconnell showed that he hadn’t lost his stroke as he drove in the last run to put Kirk Freeport ahead 4:3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Eddie Torres, Mark Matheson and Miguel Pitta delivered consecutive singles to load the bases with no one out. Joseph McField promptly followed with a two-run double to win the game for Gator.

Saturday’s games at 3:30 pm and 6 pm have been postponed until the end of the season due to the CILL Annual Raffle taking place that afternoon.

In addition, with the CILL season winding up this coming weekend, further schedule adjustments are expected to be announced shortly for this baseball division.

The league organisers are desperate to find two umpires who are willing to work one game per week. “There must be a few people out there who have umpired and can give two hours a week,” said Donnie Ebanks. Anyone interested is asked to contact Kevin on 926-0388 or Donnie on 916-5696.
