Minister of Health Services,
Agriculture, Aviation and
Works, Gilbert McLean

Wednesday, May 26, 2004

The total budget for 2004/2005 for this Ministry is $31,403,153 of which the largest component is health care at $13,076,775.

This covers the provision of medical care to indigents ($5,173,177) and veterans and seamen ($2,895,920), as well as medical services in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman ($2,000,000).

Public health investigations and services are budgeted at $2,970,178 and AIDS and first-aid education programmes at $37,500.

No longer part of the ministerial budget is health care management and the provision of medical care to civil servants, school children, prisoners and pensioners, along with the provision of global tertiary emergency medical care.

This now forms part of the function and budget of the Health Services Authority.

The next largest component, at $6,190,372, covers the maintenance and management of public roads (doubled from last year) and includes $1 million earmarked for the development of new roads.

Various agricultural services account for $2,079,219 and radio broadcasts, sales and production will cost $1,059,893.

A total of $1,552,291 is earmarked for health and agriculture inspections and regulatory services, and a further $2,293,690 is budgeted for the cost of policy advice, ministerial servicing and miscellaneous other services, an increase of $1 million over last year’s budget.
