Advice for crab-hunters

Friday, May 28, 2004

Police have advised the public that recent weather changes have triggered the annual crab season.

People who use vehicles to catch crabs are advised to park on the side of the road, leave their lights on low beam and activate their hazard lights. It is also recommended that light coloured clothing be worn and a flashlight be used.

Police also said that when children were out catching crabs it was important that they had proper adult supervision and were told of the importance of road safety before they left the house. Motorists should also take extra care when approaching any vehicle they see at the side of the road, as the occupants may be out crabbing.
