The end of the 15th season of C. I. Little League, was interrupted by rain, but ended on a high note of morning activities Saturday. A day full of All-Star and Playoff Games, combined with Awards Presentations was stopped at noon by a solid, drenching rain. The afternoon games and awards were postponed until Thursday night, but the raffle prize drawing took place at 5 o’clock, as scheduled.

And finally, a Little Leaguer won the raffle! Thulandra Forbes, of the 10-12 yr Girls division, won the $25,000 first prize. Her team, Coldwell Banker, hadn’t won a game this year, but Thulandra and her brother have played on many satisfying Little League teams over the years.

On Saturday afternoon, Thulandra thought a phone call saying she had won $25,000 quite odd, as she didn’t even know her mother had bought her a ticket! They immediately came to the ‘Field of Dreams’ to make sure it wasn’t a dream. Almost speechless, Ingrid Scott, Thulandra’s mom said, ‘Hooray for Little League, and Thanks’. She has plans of putting most of the money into her children’s education, getting a few things started and a party to celebrate.

The T-Ball, Pony and 10-12 yr Girls Division All-Star Games were played and some of the awards given out, when the rain came. The games were well-played, with shouts of encouragement and laughter from the large supportive crowds. Being named an All-Star, and playing in the All-Star game is as positive a reward as a keen young ball player can get.

Then each division went to the Bank of Butterfield Field for each team to give some awards and plaques, talk about their season and say goodbye. In each case the coaches talked about great kids, development and shared good times.

Community support is strong for the independent youth-oriented sports programme, indicated by raffle ticket sales in excess of $90,000. Hopes of winning the prize combine well with people wanting to help the League to pay for the beautiful ball park that so many of them have.

Last Thursday the field was put to use once again with the 8-12 division to finish their season.

The All Stars began playing at 6 pm and were prepared to play through the night it seemed.

In the final innings the All Star team 1 was up by several points, but with bases loaded and Justin Wight up to bat it was anybodies game. The first pitch was a inside, so Justin let it pass, on the second Justin wailed the ball and sent it out of the park for a Grand Slam.

Soon it was the final inning, the All Stars team 2 had just got everyone out at first base. All they had to do was score three points and they tied, soon enough they made the three runs making the game very intense at the final moments, with the final leaving them tied, everyone shook hands and waited for their awards.

Pizza Hut won this season, leaving the children all very proud. Although Pizza Hut won, they weren’t the only ones taking something home. They all received awards and went home waiting for the season to restart in September.
