Negotiations are well under way for the new University College of the Cayman
Islands to collaborate with the New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) in
the autumn of 2004, said President of the Community College of the Cayman
Islands Sam Basdeo.
International Admissions Officer of the NEIT Andrew Antone was on the island
for talks with officials from the Ministry of Education, the college and local
high schools.
NEIT and the Florida Culinary Institute are both offering scholarships to
Cayman Islands students, said Mr Antone at a meeting with guidance and career
counsellors of local high schools on Wednesday, 26 May.
He added that a similar scholarship programme was in place with the British
Virgin Islands, Turks & Caicos Islands, Bermuda and St Maarten.
New England Tech, in Rhode Island, US, offers associate in science degrees in
more than 20 technical programmes, and Bachelor of Science degrees in six
programmes.
It specialises in hands-on technical education and the New England
Association of Schools and Colleges accredited its associate and bachelor
degrees regionally.
A sister institution, the Florida Culinary Institute, is in West Palm Beach,
Florida.
