Mark Scotland holds campaign meeting

Mr. Mark Scotland speaks at
a UDP political rally in
Savannah

The United Democratic Party (UDP) hosted a second public meeting last
Saturday at the DaCosta Old Homestead in Savannah to announce the candidacy of
Mark Scotland as the prospective Legislative Assembly Member for the district of
Bodden Town.
Mr. Scotland will be running for election alongside fellow UDP incumbents Hon
Gilbert McLean and Hon Roy Bodden.
Mr Bodden introduced Mr Scotland by explaining that it was a good idea to
encourage younger people to serve in public office. “Great communities and great
societies were not built by people who monopolised public office, but by the
people who trained and prepared their successors, and that is what we are
setting about to do,” he said.
Trained as a civil engineer, Mr Scotland had worked for the Public Works
Department, for many years. “The most frequently asked question of me has been,
“why did you leave your good job to enter politics?”
Mark answered this question by saying he was not satisfied with the level of
contribution he was making. “I want to do more and give more to my community and
to my country. As I have always done throughout my life, I saw a need and now I
have stepped up to offer myself to help fulfill that need.”
Later in his speech, Mr Scotland spoke about the need to develop and plan the
future of Bodden Town, including some new retail outlets that will be required
to support the residential population, and the need for improvements to the road
linking Bodden Town with George Town.
“It is the utmost importance to me that the future growth of Bodden Town must
be done in a way that Caymanians will benefit,” he said.
