New website is boost for Lands and Survey
Friday, June 11, 2004
Lands and Survey will launch its new website
www.caymanlandinfo.ky
with a public awareness session and an appreciation celebration for staff at the
Marriott Hotel on 17 June from 9 am.
Schools and the general public are invited to visit booths set up by the
department to promote awareness of technology and job opportunities within Lands
and Survey.
“We’re striving to hire local young people, so we hope to draw a good crowd
and give them an opportunity to learn more about the areas of expertise within
the department,” commented Lands and Survey Director Alan Jones.
Booths will close at 1:30 pm to facilitate the launch of the department’s new
website, but will re-open from 3 pm until 4:30 pm.
HE the Governor, Bruce Dinwiddy, will open the launch with remarks. He will
also present an award to an individual who has given outstanding service to the
Lands and Survey Department and the people of the Cayman Islands.
The session for invited clients includes an executive overview by Development
Manager John Bebb, followed by a demonstration on how to navigate the website
and work interactively with the data, given by the LIS development team.
“Clients who use our services and information will greatly benefit from
attending this launch.
“How they conduct business with us is about to change significantly,” said
Lands and Survey Director Alan Jones.
He added that the department had also invited potential clients, as many
businesses were not aware of what services the department offered.
Mr Jones said he expected the department to be the first government website
to accept credit card payments.
“We are currently finalising this feature and plan to have it available to
users in the coming months.”
Mr Jones went on to explain that although many services would be available
for free online many professional clients would benefit from an annual
subscription, which would be offered at various levels of service to suit their
particular needs.
The day will conclude with an appreciation celebration for Lands and Survey
staff.
“We’re really looking forward to honouring the people in our department, and
we’ll present awards for long service and employee of the year,” continued Mr
Jones.
He added that staff were particularly looking forward to spending the evening
with former Lands and Survey staff who would also be in attendance.
