Let your voice be heard on future of health care
Wednesday, June 16, 2004
The Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) has invited public
participation in the further development of a long-term strategic plan for the
HSA.
Chief Executive Officer of the Health Services Authority, Eloise Reid said
public participation in the development of long-term plans for the HSA was one
means by which the community could become more involved in shaping a vision for
the future of healthcare in these islands.
The development of a strategic plan provides the HSA with a ‘road map’ which
will guide the organisation in achieving its mission; sets a clear course of
action to follow towards reaching specific objectives; establishes financial
goals to meet the issues identified as critical to the success of the Health
Services Authority.
A two-day exercise, held in April brought together individuals from a wide
cross section of the society, including the private sector, clergy, insurance
industry, Ministry of Health, the board, management and staff of the HSA.
As part of the two-day exercise, the team developed a new mission for the HSA
and strategies to achieve the mission.
“The mission of the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority, the primary
provider of high quality healthcare, is to optimise the wellness of all people
in our islands, by delivering accessible, cost-effective, patient-focused care
through visionary leadership, operational efficiency and compassionate staff.”
The six strategies identified by the planning team and critical to the future
of the Health Services Authority and to the long-term sustainability of a high
quality healthcare system for all people in the Cayman Islands are:
“We will fully develop, implement and sustain an organisational structure
that identifies roles, responsibilities and accountability for the Board,
management and staff.
“We will create an environment in which patients and families are encouraged
to actively participate in achieving wellness.
“We will improve external communication to gain public confidence and support
to achieve our mission and objectives.
“We will ensure our financial viability by introducing effective financial
controls as well as seeking revenue enhancement.
“We will create an environment that ensures internal communication, fosters
job satisfaction and encourages staff commitment to improve productivity and
customer service.
“We will ensure that the care delivered meets or exceeds internationally
accepted standards.
The action team meetings are scheduled to start in July and people interested
