Father and son join the poll battle

John Jefferson, Sr and Jr, ready to do election battle
Friday, June 18, 2004
John Jefferson Jr and his father John Jefferson Sr have joined forces to
offer their services as Independent candidates for the district of West Bay in
the upcoming November General Election.
John Jr served as an MLA for West Bay for 12 years from 1988-2000. John Sr
also served previously as an MLA for the district of West Bay, from 1968-1976.
The cornerstone of their campaign will be that Caymanians must be given their
rightful place in society through training and education. In addition,
Caymanians must be given preference with respect to business and employment
opportunities.
Their campaign manifesto will set the following priorities: Education, for
all Caymanians, locally and overseas; Preference for employment and business
opportunities for Caymanians; Youth, promotion of programmes, services, and
facilities, which are considered necessary for the proper development of our
young people into happy, healthy, and productive citizens; North sound, a policy
of no major dredging of the North sound; and the number of boats for watersports
and owned by non-Caymanians who operate in the North sound should be limited.
Additional components of the campaign manifesto include: Fighting to
establish a safe, crime-free and drug-free society; Caymanization of the civil
service; Offering strong support for an increased role and influence of the
Church in society and a re-emphasis of the Christian values the islands were
founded upon and a proper training programme for prisoners to assist with
employment upon their release.
