Birthday celebrations for the Queen took place at the Legislative Assembly Buildings last Saturday in front of a large gathering of dignitaries and spectators.

A crowd of around one hundred people, along with the entire uniformed contingent, stood as HE The Governor, Bruce Dinwiddy, arrived.

Following protocol at such a prestigious annual event, The Governor inspected the parade following the Royal Salute.

The Parade comprised of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Band plus a detachment from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, Fire Service and Prison service.

They were followed by the Girls’ Brigade, Sea Scouts and Cub Scouts, then by a group of former servicemen and Cadets.

After the Royal Cayman Islands Police Band, and the John Gray High School Band, played the first verse of the National Anthem, a 21-gun salute heralded three cheers for the Queen.

Following the salute Pastor Al Ebanks led all the attendees in a prayer for the Queen.

The presentation of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (civil division) awards, which were announced in the New Year Honours List, began with the Honourable James Montgomery Ryan, MBE, JP, who was becoming a Commander of the British Empire (CBE).

Becoming Members of the British Empire were Mr. Orrett Lenard Connor, JP; Mr. Carson Kimbal Ebanks, JP; and Mrs. L. Angela Martins.
The Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service, for dedicated and outstanding contribution to the Royal Cayman Islands Police force, was presented to Detective Chief Inspector Denzie Cecelia Carter.

The Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour were presented to Carl Christopher Godet, David Neils Godfrey, Reverend Stanwyck Darnel Myles, Pastor Clement Ransford Reid, Selbert Percy Jackson, Laten Moreland Bush, Suzanne Broadway Soto, Deborah Icilda Ebanks, Mexi-Ann Grant, Trevor Eyston Watler, S. Lynne Whittaker, A. Abrana Quintero, and Rachail Anne Ebanks.

The Queen’s Scout award was presented to Fritz Albert Roy McPherson, Edison Raymond Jackson, and Zoion Floyd Shaw.

Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards were presented to Tiffany Ann Rankine, Linda Lisa McField, and Shareena Monique Ebanks.

As the attendees were dismissed, they were issued with an invitation to join The Governor for drinks and refreshments in the gardens of Government House.
