ACCESS: Political Youth Awareness

Putting Cayman first with recently declared Bodden Town candidate Sandra Catron

Monday, June 21, 2004

As members of ACCESS move forward to the 2004 Elections, thinking about that well-rounded and professionally responsible candidate that has the opportunity to represent our individual districts is becoming a vision that is coming into focus.

It is a difficult process to identify all of the issues and topics that a candidate may wish to address during their attempts to stand out from the rest.

Even more challenging is the candidate’s resources to reach all members of his or her community to have their views, character and abilities to ‘get the job done’ on display.

ACCESS was excited as one recently declared candidate for Bodden Town, Sandra Catron agreed to answer a few questions on what she hopes she will be able to do for the people within her community, should she be elected as a Bodden Town representative.

The Cayman Islands, being a small, close-knit community may have heard Sandra’s name in passing, read an article in Cayman Net News or even be a friend, business associate or family member of Sandra’s.

With each of these, people can certainly draw on their experiences and create a mental image of how and what they think of this ambitious and determined woman.

Sandra Catron is most definitely an actively inspiring person when it comes to achieving goals, with a degree in Professional and Technical Writing from The University of South Florida, followed by attending The Cayman Islands Law school, Sandra earned a degree in Law from Liverpool University in 2000 and is still going strong with more education to obtain her Masters in Public Administration.

With her passion for learning, she strongly believes that people are not defined by their profession. Everyone is different and it is in those differences that allow people to develop their own place in the business world. Technical Skills are just as beneficial as academic skills and if both of these skills are acquired it can only prove to strengthen our country’s business development, as well as open the doors to future personal opportunities.

That is why Sandra highlights her attention and actions towards the development of both the youth and the elderly.

One of her key issues is a focus and solution orientated plan to address family issues, specifically relating to special needs people, the elderly and child abuse.

One of the things that really illustrates her commitment to what she would like to bring attention to, is the fact that she spent many of her teen years doing volunteer work in nursing homes, peer counselling in her school, and it doesn’t stop there, upon returning to The Cayman Islands she dedicated time to such community organisations such as the Cayman Islands Student Association & Junior Achievement.

Sandra has also put in the ‘footwork’ for learning and experiencing the nature of politics by gaining useful insights with the opportunity of campaign manager for Anthony Eden in the previous elections.

With all the things Sandra has accomplished, she still keeps setting her own bar of expectations for her goals a little bit higher each day. Owning a business is one thing, but owning a successful business is a definitely a challenge.

Micro Matrix is her practical experience and example to support the community with its needs and also brings with it a different understanding of all the challenges and opportunities that are being faced in The Cayman Islands.

That is why this woman, with her endless passion for improvement looks ahead to a possible shopping complex in Bodden Town.

The purpose for this, is employment opportunities, while providing the residents of Bodden Town with conveniences such as banking, medical facilities and restaurants.

Should she be elected, she has definite plans to address the traffic situation that is experienced in Bodden Town. While she may not have the answers, she has been listening to what her community has been saying.

There is a lot more that could be said about this woman who is not only seeking the support of Bodden Town, but more importantly is seeking to support the needs of Bodden Town, by putting education first and our people first.

Sandra welcomes learning more about what her community needs to help put Cayman First. She can be contacted at at 926-0449 or e-mail caymanfirst@candw.ky
