St Mathews University School of Medicine has donated seven IBM computers to
Bodden Town’s new Learning Centre at Safehaven, George Town.
Bodden Town MLA’s, Hon. Roy Bodden JP, Minister of Education, Human Resources
and Culture, and Hon. Gilbert Mclean, JP Minister of Agriculture, Aviation &
Works, received the gift.
The computers were handed over by a number of representatives of St Mathew’s
University School of Medicine, including Dr. BB Owens, Dr. Barry Robson, and Dr.
Michael Harris.
Standing beside the stack of computers, Mr. Bodden said that the University’s
action was “The Epitome of good corporate citizenship.”
“Mr. Mclean and I mentioned to Dr Owen that we had embarked upon a project in
our community, and he asked how he could be of assistance.
“I must say that we were pleasantly surprised when they agreed to sponsor to
the extent of our needs,” Mr. Bodden said.
Explaining the purpose of the equipment, Mr. Bodden continued: “This
equipment will be going into a learning centre in the community of Bodden Town,
to facilitate the needs of all those people who are interested in accessing
information and communications technology.”
Final work on the new learning centre, due to open in mid-July, is presently
underway at the site of the old Bodden Town Clinic.
The new centre will perform two roles, with the ground floor featuring a new
centre for locally produced crafts, and the top floor accommodating the new
information and communications technology-learning centre.
