Wednesday, June 23, 2004
A 25-year-old local man, Franklin Banagas-Calix, died last weekend, and three
others were injured, in a one-vehicle accident on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway
last Saturday night.
The Emergency Communications Centre (911) received a report at 11:57 pm that
a silver-coloured BMW had veered off the road into the bushes. Police officers,
paramedics and fire officers responded to the scene and the four men inside the
vehicle were taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment. Mr
Banagar-Calix, the driver, was later pronounced dead by doctors on Sunday, 20
June.
One of the men injured in the accident was still in hospital on Monday
suffering from head injuries, while the other two men had been released.
As of Monday, no further details had been issued as to the nature of the
accident and a post mortem was scheduled for early in the week.
Witnesses or persons who rendered assistance prior to the arrival of the
Emergency Services are asked to contact Constable Winsome Forbes at 926-1672 or
