The Cayman Islands Football Association has again scheduled exciting international matches for the approaching long weekend at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

On Sunday, 4 July and Monday, 5 July at 7:00 p.m. Cayman’s Senior National Women’s Football Team will meet St Jago Girls Team, 2004 champions from Jamaica’s ISSA/Captain’s Bakery High School Girls League, in two friendly matches.

The women’s team, which is pretty new to international competition, played their first official tournament in the Olympic Qualifiers last December, while the U19 Girls participated in World Cup Qualifiers in February of this year. Since then, National Women’s Coach Thiago Cunha, has kept the ladies together, training twice each week, building strength, endurance and team harmony.

Though the ladies are not training for any particular tournament at the moment it is important that they stay in shape and remain focused for the future events that FIFA and CONCACAF has scheduled. “We have to keep training,” says Cunha, “it’s the only way to improve Cayman football.” Tournaments offered at the FIFA and confederation levels include the Women’s Gold Cup Tournament, Women’s World Cup, U19 World Championships and Olympic Tournaments.

Prior to both matches scheduled for Sunday and Monday evening the District Youth Tournament Finals will conclude all youth football for the 2003-04 season. Matches are scheduled as follows:

Sunday July 4th – Truman Bodden Sports Complex
5:00 p.m. U14 George Town vs. West Bay
7:00 p.m. Cayman National Women vs. St Jago Girls

Monday July 5th - Truman Bodden Sports Complex
5:00 p.m. U16 Bodden Town vs. West Bay
7:00 p.m. St Jago Girls vs. Cayman National Women

Tickets will be available at the gate, adults $5 and children under 16 Free. Refreshments will also be on sale. For further information contact the CIFA office at 949-5775.
