Summer job registration scheme finished

Tuesday, July 6, 2004

Registration for summer job placements through the Department of Employment Relations has closed.

Programme Development Officer, Jean Solomon said: “Based on the number of applications we’ve received and the jobs available, we are closing registration and will concentrate our efforts on placing the remaining students on the list.”

She thanked businesses and government departments for contacting DER and offering students summer jobs. She added: “Our success rests largely on the participation of the employers and we appreciate their response to our requests for help.”

Ms Solomon made a final call to businesses to accommodate students for the summer.

She said: “I know there are budgetary constraints, but even if businesses can offer a position for only a few weeks of the holidays, it will give students the chance to earn while they learn, keep them off the streets, and serve as invaluable experience for their future careers.”

Registration for next year’s summer job placement programme will start in May 2005, and Ms Solomon is already encouraging students to apply early. Businesses with available positions can call her on 945-3114.
