Gerald McRobb

Thursday, July 8, 2004

The Manager of Caribbean Utilities Company’s (CUC) Line Department, Gerald McRobb, died early Monday morning from injuries sustained after falling from an electric pole.

A Canadian national from British Columbia, Mr McRobb died at 5 am following an accident that occurred shortly after 1 am when he fell from a CUC pole he was climbing near the company’s West Bay Substation.

Mr McRobb suffered severe injuries and was transported to the George Town Hospital in an unconscious state, where he died four hours later.

Commenting on the accident, Caren Thompson, CUC’s Manager of Corporate Communications, said: “The CUC Family is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Mr McRobb and extends its deepest sympathy to his family and friends here in Cayman and back in Canada. We were all privileged to have had Mr McRobb on the CUC Team for the past four years and will greatly miss him. We are grateful to the 911 operators, police, emergency medical technicians and emergency room personnel for their valiant efforts to save Mr McRobb’s life.”

Out of respect for Mr McRobb, CUC announced it would fly its flag at half-mast and that employees would wear black ribbons as a symbol of mourning this week. On Tuesday morning, CUC employees received spiritual words of comfort from Pastor Alson Ebanks and Pastor James Arch as well as grief counseling from Ms April Lewis of the Employee Assistance Programme.
