- Well written. Thank you, Mr. Ebanks - Jerome Bush
- I too was shocked by Mr Norberg's statement to
the effect that the government ought to be returned even without a November
general election. I read the story and thought to myself that this was
either a print mistake or that this respected Caymanian citizen has lost his
mind. I thought that he should have an opportunity to correct this in the
event that it was a mistake by the media. This correction was not
forthcoming and to add insult to injury other print media printed the same
letter with the same statement.
I am, therefore, sorry to say that this senior respected citizen of our
country has discredited himself by making such an arrogant, insensitive and
communistic statement. Mr Norberg you should withdraw this statement and
apologise unreservedly to the Caymanian people for this reckless statement.
Anything less will cause you to be recorded in our history books as one that
was respected but who in the end turned on his people and advocated
something that would have the effect of transitioning the country from a
democracy to the dictatorship.
Mr Norberg I know deep down that that is not the legacy you wish to leave
behind for your grandchildren and great grandchildren to discover - A
Democratic Caymanian
- Please add my thoughts to the upcoming elections.
Too many times I have heard the assembly pass a new law, regulation,
amendments etc. which may or not be in the best interest of the Cayman
Islands in general. Because we have a two party system usually the one with
the majority will get their way regardless of the wishes of the opposition.
The house members all need to bear in mind that Cayman comes first, NOT
their own selfish egos.
I welcome the news that there will be the chance of several people running
as Independents in this next election and here is why in my humble opinion.
This will create a better balance within the house where no party will have
the power to ramrod things through without properly looking at all aspects
of the law they are trying to pass. If there happens to be a very close call
in the house vote then an independent candidate could well make the
difference in the outcome.
In other words they could be the political watch-dog duly elected and will
then hopefully see that the law that is being created or passed is for the
betterment of the people of these islands or not as the case may be. There
is too much "along party lines" voting going on just to stay in favour with
the powers that be.
The recent "uprising" re PWD matters in Cayman Brac I feel is just the start
of things to come and I also feel that not all is well inside our so called
UDP run Executive Council. In closing I urge ALL registered voters to get
out and do what you feel is right for the Cayman Islands. Do not be swayed
by false and empty promises, which are so easily forgotten once they are
voted in.
Shame we can’t guarantee a perfect election free of hand-outs to "buy" votes
which seems to be on the increase as each election comes and goes. I realise
that if you wish to run for election it is your democratic right but
remember especially in the bigger districts (West Bay/George Town) that the
more that run the less chance there will be of getting out the ones you do
not think should remain to carry forward the wishes of the people of the
Cayman Islands - Peter Milburn.
