  • I understand where the comments from both the Hon Roy Bodden and Walling Whittaker come from. But I do not believe that it is in our Caymanian nature to do so. There is a reason that the vast majority of tourist-related jobs go to expats on this island. It is that we simply do not want them.

We've spent generations living a simple life to ourselves and now find that in order to continue to thrive on our own island we must be forced to smile and cater to the needs of tourists? Are we now nothing more than the bankers, cleaners and construction workers of people not born of this island? Why are we being continually encouraged to accept subservient positions and change the way that our culture has molded us? I for one do not want a job at the Ritz. I do not want to smile for the people coming here to spend their money. I do not want to fight in traffic everyday as more and more hotels, restaurants and office descend on our island.

And please understand this! Hon Roy Bodden and Mr. Whittaker - this Caymanian will not become a servant in his own house. So please stop asking all of us to do so - Jerome Bush
