Exciting new sand garden and sand castle competitions are announced

The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and the National Gallery have announced an upcoming sand castle and sand garden competitions.

The Cayman Brac Family Week Sand Sculpture Competition will run from 2-6 pm on Saturday 17 July at the Divi Tiara Beach Resort.

Entrants must provide their own shovels, spades, sand sculpting tools and water buckets.

Each entrant will get a 10ft x 10ft plot in which to work and prizes will be given in the following categories: children, teen, adult, family, best architectural, most realistic, and best traditional, with the best overall individual receiving a round-trip ticket on Cayman Airways to any of their destinations.

Registration will start at 2 pm, with the sand sculpting competition beginning at 3 pm, with judging at 5:30 pm.

The second event to celebrate the rich tradition of sand gardening in the Cayman Islands has been designated as the first Cayman Islands Sand Garden Competition. Any traditional Cayman-style sand gardens can be entered.

The prize for Best Caymanian traditional style sand garden will be a round-trip ticket on Cayman Airways.
