Tuesday, July 20, 2004
For the first time in history, the Cayman Islands are represented on the Board of the Insurance Association of the Caribbean.
In June 2004, Danny Scott, President of Cayman General Insurance (CGI), was elected to the IAC board at the Association’s 2004 Annual General Meeting.
“I am delighted that the Cayman Islands are represented on the Board for the first time in the long history of the IAC,” explained Mr.
Stoute.
“The new philosophy of the Association is to seek, as large as possible, a regional representation of varied opinions so that the IAC can better serve its constituents.
“We welcome Mr. Danny Scott to the Board, and are honoured to have a man with a vast knowledge of the insurance industry who is well known internationally and in the English speaking Caribbean.”
Steven Stoute, SCM, has been Senior Executive Vice President of Sagicor Incorporated, Barbados since 1989, and is President of the Institute of Caribbean Home Office Underwriters and Barbados Olympic Association.
The IAC is made up of over 500 members from the English speaking Caribbean insurance industry, major Re-insurers and Brokers.
Cayman General Insurance became a member of the Association five years ago under Danny Scott’s leadership. The only other company in the Cayman Islands that is a member of the IAC is Island Heritage.
Bryan Murphy, CEO of Island Heritage, nominated Mr. Scott for the position of an IAC Board Member at the Associations’ 2004 Conference in St. Thomas.
“I put forward Danny Scott’s name to the IAC Board because not only is he a wonderful person, but a leader in the local insurance market who bears the background and necessary experience to be an IAC Board Member,” said Mr. Murphy.
“Being appointed is a fantastic honour for, not only Mr. Scott, but the Cayman Islands and its insurance industry.
“This is enormous achievement for these Islands, and I applaud the IAC’s Board for appointing Mr. Scott.”
Danny Scott has been the President and CEO of Cayman General Insurance for twenty years, and has led the launch of several innovative products at CGI.
In addition to his position at CGI, he is also the President of the Cayman Islands Insurance Association, and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University College of the Cayman Islands.
