Cayman Chili Cook Off a sizzling success... ‘Finger-licking’ good

by Lynsay Brown
Thursday, July 22, 2004

Last Saturday’s Chili Cook Off concluded this year’s Taste of Cayman events in spectacular style, thanks to heaps of delicious food and loads of fun packed events.

The rain bought the evening to a slightly earlier then anticipated end, not before everyone had the chance to enjoy the dazzling firework display.

The Crow’s Nest had another very successful year, winning first place across the board with Best Chili, Best Contemporary Turtle, Best Overall Dish and Best Dessert for their traditional Cassava Cake and Best Presentation for their Conch Fritters.

Island Taste won first place in the Conch Fritters category and Best Traditional Beef Dish and second place for Best Traditional and Contemporary Turtle Dish, and Best Dessert.

In the Chili Cook Off, there was a tie between the Dart groups’ Barn Yardies and Bob Moseley’s Five O’Clockers for Best Decorated Booth.
Best Costume was awarded to the Marriot Chili Heads, while Best Vegetarian Chili went to Dr Mike Thomas.

The drawing of the winning ticket for the grand prize, the 2004 Convertible Chevrolet SSR Pick-up truck was postponed because of the rain.

  • I for one am not satisfied with Mr. Ryan's generic explanation regarding the Cuban's claims as printed in the Washington Post article. Are there no records on a case-by-case basis to discuss? Mr. Ryan's statements have a theoretical basis only. What are the actual facts in this case? His comments could have been made without so much as a single phone call to immigration or any so-called "detention facility" (prison?) officials. Mr. Ryan should at least explain how this matter shall be investigated - by police - a special board of inquiry? Otherwise we are once again looking through a glass darkly. Sadly, "transparency" claims by Government continue to be destitute of sincerity or effort - Detail Oriented
