CUC Warns of Higher Costs
Friday, July 23, 2004
Cayman residents can expect higher electric bills in July and August because of higher temperatures, and an increase in fuel costs, according to a customer advisory issued by Caribbean Utilities Company on Wednesday.
CUC’s Customer Service Department said that air-conditioning and refrigeration consumption increases when temperatures are higher during this time of year.
The company also stated that with its fuel adjustment mechanism, which is similar to the process used by electric utilities all over the world, the higher cost of fuel this summer would be passed on to consumers.
“In accordance with CUC’s Licence, the calculation process of the fuel adjustment and Government review takes place over a two-month period,” the company stated in its press release, “CUC’s fuel costs for May and June will therefore affect customers’ bills in July and August respectively.”
To help counteract the hotter temperatures and rising fuel costs, CUC encouraged customers to ensure that their air-conditioning units were properly serviced.
The company also suggested customers visit the Energy Depot at its website at
www.cuc-cayman.com, or to collect a handbook with energy saving tips from its Customer Service Departments at West Shore Centre or North Sound Road.
CUC said its Energy Smart Programme promoted energy conservation and provided tips to reduce electrical consumption and to keep bills at a minimum during the summer months and when the fuel costs are on the increase.
In addition, CUC said it also offers free energy audits for customers who would like to have an assessment of their energy consumption carried out to ensure that energy is not being wasted in their homes or businesses.
CUC customers can contact the company’s Customer Service Representatives at 949-4300 or via email at
service@cuc.ky for further information or to request a copy of the free handbook with energy savings tips.
