Kamaal Connolly

Tuesday, July 27, 2004

Local youngster Kamaal Connolly has returned from a Global Young Leaders Conference from Sunday, July 11 to Thursday, July 22 in Washington, D.C. and New York City.

Kamaal was among 350 outstanding scholars from across the globe attending the conference, which discussed the theme: “Leaders of Tomorrow Preparing for the Global Challenges and Responsibilities of the Future.”

Kamaal Connolly, an honours graduate from John Gray High School, is the son of The Hon Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, JP and Mr. Gilbert Connolly.

Kamaal, who has now returned to his home following the event, stated that it was an intriguing experience and an honour to showcase the Cayman Islands.

He interacted with key leaders and newsmakers, and took part in a carefully designed curriculum which included thought-provoking simulations which build leadership skills.

“The Global Young Leaders Conference aims to provide students like Kamaal Conolly with the opportunity to collaborate with students from around the world to both study and resolve global conflict,” said Mike Lasday, executive director of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the organisation that sponsors GYLC.

“When ideas and points of view are shared, the true results of the Conference are realised.”

GYLC culminated with a Global Summit, in which students applied what they’d learned throughout the Conference.
