Children’s laughter and the strains of “Happy Birthday” are not something you’d expect to hear on a Friday afternoon at the Cayman Islands Public Service Pensions Board office. However, 16 July was a special day for Zoe Solomon, who, joined her family, and staff of the Board, to celebrate her third birthday.
Young Zoe, who was diagnosed with a heart tumour over a year ago, was pleased to celebrate her first ever birthday party with the staff of the Pensions Board, who chose her as the recipient of their 2003 charity.
Jennifer Miller, the assistant Pensions Administrator and Charity Co-ordinator, arranged a cake and ice cream party as a gift for Zoe, her family and for all the Pensions Board staff.
Zoe’s brothers Matthew, 14, Luthar, 7, and Malcolm, 5, helped Zoe open gifts from the staff, as her mother Alice, father Christopher, and grandmother Nellie looked on.
“All the employees of the Pensions Board are delighted to be able to play a small role in Zoe’s battle with her illness. We are pleased she is doing well and wish her continued good health,” said Ms Miller.
Each year, the Board’s staff raises funds through an annual charity raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses, along with monthly payroll deduction from each employee.
Patron of the Board of Trustees for Public Service Pensions, National Hero, Mrs Sybil McLaughlin, MBE, JP also makes a generous donation toward the Board’s charity fund each year.
