The 2004 Junior Caribbean Squash Championships, was held in the Cayman
Islands ran in early July at the South Sound Squash Club. The competition
catered to young squash players aged between 10 and 19.
Cayman hosted over 100 visitors representing teams from Bahamas, Bermuda,
Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Venezuela and Other Eastern
Caribbean States (OECS) – including St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Dominica.
Global law firm, Appleby Spurling Hunter was one of the main sponsors of the
event. Bryan Hunter, a partner with Appleby Spurling Hunter, commented. “We are
dedicated to supporting sport in our community, especially among our young
people, and we are extremely proud to have been involved in this exciting
international event.”
Ian Patrick, a member of the organizing committee, commented: “The
championships provide a great opportunity for the young people of the Caribbean
to meet new friends and participate in a competitive environment without
foregoing the spirit and sportsmanship associated with this fabulous
competition.”
The tournament was also to promote, among the young participants, an
appreciation of the cultures of other nations within the region. After the first
three days of competition, all participants and their management teams were
treated to a fun day excursion to the world famous Stingray City followed by a
beach barbeque at Kaibo.
“As sponsors of ‘The Big Day Out,’ we are pleased to be promoting Caymanian
culture among these visitors to our islands,” said Mr. Hunter, adding, “We also
hope that the tournament has and will continue to raise the profile of squash in
our islands.”
